If you're coming from North Wilkesboro it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of places for that. This section of Reddies River in North Carolina is 10 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. You can pitch a tent or park
your RV at a nearby campground. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. The wonderful Wilkes County scenery and the beautiful way the water current moves
down the stream beats anything. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so why not pack your camp stove too. Reddies River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Route 1546 to North Wilkesboro section is the only one. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of precipitation makes Reddies River a reasonably wet place; May is the wettest month with most rain, and December on the other hand is the driest.
Here at Reddies River you'll almost certainly meet some people from North Wilkesboro. For the duration of the summer here at Reddies River, high temperatures regularly get into the 70's. All through the dark hours of summer temperatures sink down into the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's while Reddies River night low temperatures during the winter are in the 20's.
