This stretch of Reddies River in Wilkes County is 10 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. If you're coming from North Wilkesboro it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. The beautiful scenery of Wilkes County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so
go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. The average North Carolina whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. There are campgrounds quite near the
river where you can camp. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is wonderful. Reddies River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Route 1546 to North Wilkesboro stretch is the only one.
Briefly about the general area: At Reddies River throughout the summertime months highs are in the 70's. For the period of the moonlight hours it's generally
in the 50's. All through the winter this place gets highs in the 40's, and overnight lows in the 20's for Reddies River. Reddies River is a quite wet place typically with much precipitation; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month is December. You'll meet a lot of people from North Wilkesboro here.
