Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so don't forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. The nature scenery of Northampton County and the water flowing gracefully down Roanoke River are reasons     enough to come here and paddle. The North Carolina Route 48 to 1/2 mile downstream of US 301 section is the only paddling section along Roanoke River. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Roanoke Rapids, as you can see on the road map further down. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. Briefly about the general area: All through the warm days of summer here at Roanoke River, high temperatures ordinarily get into the 80's with overnight lows in the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's while Roanoke River overnight low temperatures during the wintertime are in the 20's. All the water   falling down from the sky makes Roanoke River a wet location; August is when you get the most rain here, and the driest of the months is April.
