The Route 2170 to North Carolina Route 902 section of Rocky River in North Carolina is 7 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-III section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. If you're coming from Sanford it's
    not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while have a lot of people coming here. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. This is the only paddling section along Rocky River. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that.
