The Rocky Broad River- Class IV-V???? Are you kidding? Not since I moved here in '85 has there even been much water there! You can barely even float a boat on it unless it has rained for several days! My 7yo daughter tubed it last year (at least when she wasn't bumping over the shallow rocks). Even this year when we've tons on rain, a kayaker would have trouble picking a deep enough line through the shoals. Says Jeff Stilber

people from near and far. This stretch of Rocky Broad River in Henderson/Rutherford County is 3.5 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. The put-in location is a short drive from Asheville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a
road map further down the page. Lodging is available near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The campgrounds here at Rocky Broad River are pretty good. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in North Carolina are easier than the national norm, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Along Route 64/74 to Lake Lure at Chimney
Rock section is one of them. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. This stretch is short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great
experience.
Briefly about the general area: If you're here, you might as well take a look at Haircomb Gap, and do put some time aside to spend at Rainbow Falls if you're here at Rocky Broad River. Summertime highs at Rocky Broad River ordinarily tend to be in the 80's,
and during the night it cools down to the 60's. All through the winter this place gets highs in the 40's, and throughout the dark hours in the winter at Rocky Broad River temperatures drop to the 20's. This is such a fun river. All the water falling down from the sky makes
Rocky Broad River a wet location; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain; the driest month is December. You just can't imagine the amount of outdoors entertaining stuff the Blue Ridge Mountains has to offer. Chimney Rock is an exciting thing to distinguish if you're here at Rocky Broad River, and Hickorynut Falls is a perfect local attraction.
