The nature scenery of Graham County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The FR 81c Bridge to Forest Service Gate stretch of Santeetlah River in North Carolina is 3.4 miles long and is a class V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find     a large number of good rivers. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. The FR 81c Bridge to Forest Service Gate section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. The beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains is a great plus for this river. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will make you glad you came. This is a somewhat short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Briefly about the general area: The South Fork Citico Trail is a wonderful hiking trail right next door to Santeetlah River, and there is a fine hiking trail nearby called the Brush Mountain Trail. Santeetlah River is a wet site that gets a large amount of rainfall; March is when you   get the most rain here while October is ordinarily the driest month. Just can't get enough of the Great Smoky Mountains. During the summertime months at Santeetlah River highs are generally in the 80's with nighttime lows in the 60's.
