The Gate to FS Road 81 Bridge stretch of Santeetlah River in Graham County is 5 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class III+ section. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because     it is a very popular destination. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Getting a good workout and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good rivers for that around here. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The wild scenery of the Great Smoky Mountains is great. The wonderful North Carolina scenery and the playfulness of the water make the trip here worthwhile. Briefly about the general area: Obadiah Gap is a pleasant place to spend some time at. Santeetlah River commonly gets a large amount of rainfall; the month with most of the rain is March; the driest month of the year is October. Throughout the warm days   of summer at Santeetlah River temperatures are frequently in the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 60's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 40's, and overnight lows at Santeetlah River all through the winter regularly plunge into the 20's.
