This stretch of Scotts Creek in North Carolina is 2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV(V) section. If you're coming from Brevard it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. The beautiful scenery of North Carolina and the sparkling
of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The Willets-Ochre Hill to Addie stretch is the only paddling stretch along Scotts Creek. Some people prefer whitewater
rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. The Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is wonderful. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in North Carolina tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Scotts Creek regularly tend to be in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows
fall down to the 50's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's while the cold winter nights at Scotts Creek are in the 20's. Scotts Creek is a reasonably wet place usually with a great deal of rain; March is the wettest month with most rain, and October on the other hand is the driest. Chestnut Gap is a pleasant spot to pop by in the vicinity of Scotts Creek.
