This stretch of Slickrock Creek in Graham/ County is 6.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III-V section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of North Carolina and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream attract people from near and far. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, it's good length for a morning trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good places. Whitewater paddling here in the Great Smoky Mountains is a great experience. There's camping
available near Slickrock Creek. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The starting location is a short
drive from Knoxville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. This is the only paddling stretch along Slickrock Creek. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners.
Briefly about the general area: For the duration of the long summer days highs here at Slickrock Creek get into the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 60's. For the duration of the wintertime
the highs are commonly in the 40's with temperatures at Slickrock Creek dipping down into the 20's throughout winter nights. All the water falling down from the sky makes Slickrock Creek a wet site; most of the rain falls throughout March, and October is when it's the driest.
This is a really good river. Lower Falls is a tremendous local attraction. Near Slickrock Creek you locate good sites like Big Fat Gap, and going for a hike on the Stiffknee Trail is always a brilliant adventure. And if that's not enough there's heaps more amusing stuff to do in
the Great Smoky Mountains. It's always good to stop at Lower Falls, and close by you find the Big Stack Gap Branch Trail which is a delightful hiking trail.
