This stretch of Slickrock Creek in North Carolina is 6.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-V section of whitewater. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in North Carolina are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less demanding. The beautiful scenery of North Carolina
and the playfulness of the water will make you feel great. The Big Fat Gap to Lake Cheoh section is the only paddling section along Slickrock Creek. The wild scenery of the Great Smoky Mountains is great. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking,
either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more.
Briefly about the general area: The high level of rainfall makes Slickrock Creek a relatively wet place; the month with most of
the rain is March, and the driest month is October. Throughout the summertime here at Slickrock Creek, high temperatures typically reach the 80's. Throughout the dark hours of summer temperatures dip down into the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 40's, and winter nights
come with lows in the 20's to Slickrock Creek. This is such a fun river. Why not take a refreshing hike along the Stiffknee Trail. Hiking is a popular thing to do around Slickrock Creek; Big Stack Gap Branch Trail is a fine local trail, and a trip to Lower Falls will fill your
spirit with good feelings. Man, is there plenty of enjoyable stuff to do in the Great Smoky Mountains. If you're here, you might as well stop at Big Fat Gap, and the beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Lower Falls.
