Says Kelly Dockery The natural beauty of Davie/Rowan County and the water flowing gracefully down South Yadkin River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Salisbury, as you can see on the road map further down. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a pretty small number of paddling places. The nearby     hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. South Yadkin River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Route 1143 to US Route 6O1 section is the only one. This stretch of South Yadkin River is 11.7 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-II section of whitewater. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. Briefly about the general area: South Yadkin River sees pretty high levels of precipitation; all through the month of May you get the most rain around here; April is when it's the driest. Throughout the warm months highs here at South Yadkin River reach the 80's, and the overnight   is rather colder of course, frequently in the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's, and nighttime lows during the winter for South Yadkin River tend to be in the 20's.
