Says Kelly Dockery The starting point is not too far from Salisbury, as you can see on the road map further down. This section of South Yadkin River in Davie/Rowan County is 11.7 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so better not forget that many runs in this state are very easy. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either     way this is an area with not too many other spots for that. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so pack your camp stove. The Route 1143 to US Route 6O1 section is the only paddling section along South Yadkin River. The wonderful North Carolina scenery and the playfulness of the water beats anything. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. Briefly about the general area: South Yadkin River is a rather wet place frequently with a large amount of rainfall; the month with most of the rain is May while April is the   month with the least amount of precipitation. Summertime at South Yadkin River comes with high temperatures in the 80's, and through the night it cools down to the 60's. All through the wintertime this place gets highs in the 40's while South Yadkin River nighttime low temperatures throughout the wintertime are in the 20's.
