Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in North Carolina tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. This is the only paddling section along     Steels Creek. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature are great reasons to come. The put-in location is a short drive from Boone, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This section is long enough to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. When you're paddling down a Blue Ridge Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. The beautiful scenery of Burke County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here.
