The starting location is a short drive from Rocky Mount, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This is a very short section so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. A bit of exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. The natural beauty of North Carolina and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough     to come here to paddle. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside North Carolina you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. No shortage of good hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Tar River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Downtown Rocky Mount section is the only one. Briefly about the general area: A short tour to Little Falls is always worthwhile. All the water falling down from the sky makes Tar River a wet place; the month with most of the rain is August; April on the other hand is the driest. For the duration of the months of summer here at Tar River, high temperatures frequently get into the 80's; the nighttime is fairly   colder of course, typically in the 60's. The wintertime brings highs down to the 40's, and overnight lows at Tar River during the winter regularly drop into the 20's. Little Falls is an inspiring spot to go to during your stay, and the fine people of Rocky Mount like to hang out nearby.
