CLASS III+     3.5 miles
  This section of Thunderhole Creek in Caldwell County is 3.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III+ section by American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Caldwell County and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. This river system has a few good paddling sections and the Globe Road to Upton section is one of them. Lodging is available near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're
    all set. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. This stretch is short so no need to bring snacks. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Since you're on this site you are probably
into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of spots for that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers in this state are less demanding. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near. If you're coming from Boone it's not a long drive

Briefly about the general area:
Appalachian Mountain is a very popular ski area close at hand; there are nice places to discover along the Daniel Boone Scout Trail. These mountains rock, just check out all the enjoyable things to do in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Thunderhole Creek is a location with many visitors from Blowing Rock, and going for a hike on the Yancey Ridge Trail is always a glorious adventure. If you come to this river you will have a good time for sure.
