This section of Thunderhole Creek is 3.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III+ section by American Whitewater. The wonderful Caldwell County scenery and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. If you're coming from Boone it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. Thunderhole Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Globe Road to Upton stretch is the only one. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery
is an added bonus. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch is short so better bring some good walking shoes. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners.

hours of summer temperatures drop down into the 50's. During the winter highs are in the 40's with temperatures at Thunderhole Creek dipping down into the 10's through winter nights. Thunderhole Creek usually gets a lot of rainfall; most of the rain falls all through May, and December meanwhile is the driest month.
