If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The natural beauty of North Carolina and the cool fresh water have people coming here. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Johnson City, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road     map further down the page. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is wonderful. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter, so pack your sleeping bag. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. There are no other sections to paddle along Toe River - South than the Carolina Hemlocks Camp to Route 1131 section. Briefly about the general area: A short spree to Roaring Spout Falls is always worthwhile. Toe River   - South is a wet site that gets much rain; July is the month that gets the most rain; October is the month with the least moisture. For the duration of the summertime months at Toe River - South highs are frequently in the 80's; during summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. For the period of the winter highs are in the 40's while Toe River - South nighttime low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 20's.
