The Carolina Hemlocks Camp to Route 1131 section of Toe River - South in North Carolina is 22.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II section. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so better not forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The natural beauty of North Carolina and the cool fresh water have people coming here. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Johnson City, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road
map further down the page. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is wonderful. If you hurry you can run this stretch in a day but why not make it an overnighter,
so pack your sleeping bag. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this area has a large number of paddling rivers. There are no other sections to paddle along Toe River - South than the Carolina Hemlocks Camp to Route 1131 section.
