If you're coming from Brevard it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The scenic beauty of North Carolina and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. When you're paddling down a Blue Ridge Mountains river like     this one you always get great scenery along the way too. This section is quite short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature have people coming from far and near. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Briefly about the general area: If you're   here, you might as well go to Turkeypen Gap. Summertime brings highs in the 70's to Toxaway River. When the night sets in temperatures drop down into the 50's. Through the winter highs are ordinarily in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Toxaway River. A good deal of rain falls at Toxaway River; March is the wettest month with most rain; the driest month of the year is April.
