Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Brevard, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. If you'll be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others
too. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good rivers for that around here. When you're paddling down a Blue Ridge Mountains river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too. The Above Tanasee Creek Reservoir stretch of Tuckasegee River
is 4.5 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-V section of whitewater. The natural beauty of Jackson County and the water flowing gracefully down Tuckasegee River are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while will have you coming back for more.

are in the 80's at Tuckasegee River. Summer overnight lows dip down to the 60's. All through the wintertime highs are generally in the 40's, and all through the dark hours in the wintertime at Tuckasegee River temperatures descend to the 20's.
