The starting point is not too far from Brevard, as you can see on the road map further down. The Cedar Cliff Reservior to Cullowhee stretch of Tuckasegee River in Jackson County is 9.4 miles long and is a class I-II(III) section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The Cedar Cliff Reservior to Cullowhee section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in North Carolina are often more forgiving than in
other states, so don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. A bit of exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but you'd better
reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. The nature scenery of Jackson County and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. The beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great plus for this river.
Briefly about the general area: Through the summertime months at Tuckasegee River highs are ordinarily in the 80's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's ordinarily
in the 50's. During the wintertime the highs are generally in the 40's with winter lows in the 20's overnight here at Tuckasegee River. While staying at Tuckasegee River you could always look at Flat Gap. Tuckasegee River is a pretty wet place frequently with a great deal of rain; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain, and October on the other hand is the driest.
