The Whittier to Bryson City stretch of Tuckasegee River is 8 miles long and is a class I-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The starting location is a short drive from Sevierville, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The scenic beauty of Jackson/Swain County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many
runs in this state are very easy. There are so many stretches to paddle in this river system, the Whittier to Bryson City stretch is just one of many. Whitewater paddling here in the Great Smoky Mountains is a great experience. There are some good hotels near the river, but do
book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is a pretty decent length section, suitable for an afternoon trip. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come.
