The Whittier to Bryson City section of Tuckasegee River is 8 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I-III section of whitewater. If you're coming from Sevierville it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The wonderful North Carolina scenery and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. There are some good hotels near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and just being out on the river
for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. This river system is full of great paddling stretches, the Whittier to Bryson City stretch is just one of them. The beautiful Great Smoky Mountains scenery is an added bonus. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for
an afternoon trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less demanding. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: Battle Cove is a great place to spend some time at. For the duration of the warmest time of the year, highs usually are in the 80's at Tuckasegee River while overnight
lows are generally in the 60's. All through the winter highs are in the 40's, and after the sun is down all through the winter temperatures at Tuckasegee River dip into the 20's. Tuckasegee River is a rather wet place frequently with a large amount of rain; July is when you get the most rain here; the driest month is October.
