This section of Tuckasegee River is 8 miles long and has been rated as a class I-III section by American Whitewater. If you're coming from Sevierville it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The scenic beauty of Jackson/Swain County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The average North Carolina whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other
states, so better not forget that rivers here are less demanding. The river winds through the Great Smoky Mountains and you get great scenery. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. There are plenty of other sections in this river system that can be
paddled as well. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. Lodging is available near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here.
Briefly about the general area: Through the days of summer highs here at Tuckasegee River reach the 80's. Once the sun is down it plunges down to the 60's. The cold
days of the wintertime come with highs in the 40's, and nighttime lows through the winter for Tuckasegee River tend to be in the 20's. A great site to check out close to Tuckasegee River is Battle Cove. Tuckasegee River sees pretty high levels of precipitation; July is when you get the most rain here while October is usually the driest month.
