The wonderful North Carolina scenery and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The Thorpe Dam to Tuckasegee River stretch of Tuckasegee River - West Fork is 9.5 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV+(V) section by American Whitewater. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the
night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one day trip. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. The put-in location is a short drive from Brevard, if
you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good spots. This river system is full of great paddling sections, the Thorpe Dam to Tuckasegee River section is just one of them. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp.
