Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Boone, as you can see on the road map further down. The beautiful scenery of North Carolina and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream will make you feel great. This stretch of Upper Creek is 17 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III+(IV) section of whitewater. If you have the time you can make this a two day
trip, so go ahead and pack your camp stove. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you
come because it is a very popular destination. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around here. This is the only paddling stretch along Upper Creek. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater paddling here in the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great experience.
Briefly about the general area: Upper Creek is a rather wet place regularly with lots of precipitation; May is the wettest month with most rain, and the driest month is December. For the period of the
summertime months here at Upper Creek, high temperatures usually reach the 70's, and the nighttime is a tad colder of course, usually in the 50's. Highs all through the winter are generally in the 40's while Upper Creek night low temperatures through the winter are in the 10's.
