The Raven Cliff Gorge to FR 982 section of Upper Creek in North Carolina is 17 miles long and has been rated as a class III+(IV) section by American Whitewater. The starting point is not too far from Boone, as you can see on the road map further down. The scenic beauty of North Carolina and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water beats anything. Upper Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Raven Cliff Gorge to FR 982 stretch is the only one. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll
find lots of paddling spots. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have a lot of people coming here. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that
a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so why not pack your camping stuff too.

and the driest month of the year is December. The warmest time of the year brings highs in the 70's to Upper Creek. Summer night lows fall down to the 50's. Throughout the winter highs are ordinarily in the 40's with temperatures at Upper Creek dipping down into the 10's during winter nights.
