The starting location is a reasonable drive from Asheville, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There's camping available near Walnut Creek. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in North Carolina are often more forgiving than in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are less demanding. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to     drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is the only paddling section along Walnut Creek. This stretch has has enough mileage, suitable for an afternoon trip. The beautiful Great Smoky Mountains scenery is an added bonus. The scenic beauty of Madison County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. A bit of exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. Briefly about the general area: Walnut Creek sees pretty high levels of rainfall; all through the month of July you get the most rain around here; October   is the month with the least moisture. Summertime highs at Walnut Creek usually tend to be in the 80's. During the dark hours of summer temperatures fall down into the 60's.
