The SR 1557 to North Carolina 105 stretch of Watauga River is 2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-IV section. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in North Carolina are often more forgiving than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. This stretch is short so better bring some good walking shoes. Briefly about the general area: A good location to check out in the vicinity of Watauga River is Young Hollow, and you'll possibly meet some folks from Boone here.
