The put-in is not too far from Boone, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. The scenic beauty of Watauga County and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream beats anything. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. No need to look hard for hotels, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way there are lots of good spots for that around
here. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The SR 1557 to North Carolina 105 stretch of Watauga River is 2 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-IV section. The sections for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in North Carolina are often more forgiving
than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. This stretch is short so better bring some good walking shoes.
Briefly about the general area: A good location to check out in the vicinity of Watauga River is Young Hollow, and you'll possibly meet some folks from Boone here.
