Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors will make you glad you came. The campgrounds here at Whiteoak Creek are pretty good. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations     you might end up sleeping in your car. The wild scenery of the Great Smoky Mountains is great. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. Whiteoak Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Above Nantahala Cascades section is the only one. This stretch is short so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. The scenic beauty of North Carolina and the beautiful way the water current moves down the stream have people coming here. Briefly about the general area: Whiteoak Creek gets a lot of water; the wettest month of the year is usually July, that's the one that rains the most; October meanwhile is the driest month. For the period of the summer months at Whiteoak Creek highs are   usually in the 80's, and all through the night it cools down to the 60's. For the period of the winter this place gets highs in the 40's while the cold winter nights at Whiteoak Creek are in the 20's. You might want to pay a visit to Poplar Cove if you're here at Whiteoak Creek, and Whiteoak Creek is right by the Wesser Creek Trail.
