If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The wonderful Macon County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Whiteoak Creek have people coming here. The Above Nantahala Cascades stretch of Whiteoak Creek in North Carolina is 2 miles long and is a class IV-V+ section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming
from far and near. This section is quite short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large
number of good rivers. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whitewater paddling here in the Great Smoky Mountains is a great experience. There are no other stretches to paddle along Whiteoak Creek than the Above Nantahala Cascades stretch.
