The Above Nantahala Cascades section of Whiteoak Creek in North Carolina is 2 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class IV-V+ section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in North Carolina tend to be more forgiving than the national average, so better not forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. The river winds through the Great Smoky Mountains and you get great scenery. This is a short paddling
stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. There are no other sections to paddle along Whiteoak Creek
than the Above Nantahala Cascades section. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Whiteoak Creek mostly tend to be in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows descend down to the 60's. High temperatures throughout the wintertime are normally in the 40's, and throughout the dark hours in the
wintertime at Whiteoak Creek temperatures plunge to the 20's. So much cool stuff in the Great Smoky Mountains, just fantastic. If you desire a little side journey, try Poplar Cove, and the Wesser Creek Trail is a good hiking trail close by. Whiteoak Creek is a reasonably wet
place usually with a large amount of rainfall; of all the months in a year July is the one with the most rain; October on the other hand is the driest.
