The scenic beauty of Caldwell County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. This section of Wilson Creek in Caldwell County is 1.9 miles long and has been rated as a class III-IV+(V) section by American Whitewater. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, there are lots of good places for that around here. The beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains scenery is an added bonus. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick.
If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. The National Forest sign to parking area above Brown MtNorth Beach section is one of many paddling sections in this river system. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great
reasons to come. The starting location is a short drive from Boone, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside North Carolina you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so better not forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times.

Creek a wet location; through May this area sees the most rain, and the driest of the months is December. Summertime brings highs in the 70's to Wilson Creek. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's regularly in the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's, and through the dark hours in the wintertime at Wilson Creek temperatures plunge to the 10's.
