The natural beauty of North Carolina and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The river winds through the Blue     Ridge Mountains and you get great scenery. The campgrounds here at Yadkin River are pretty good. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots. If you're coming from Hickory-Morganton-Lenoir it's not a long drive at all to the starting location, as you can see on the road map further down. The Route 268 Bridge to Route 1137 section is the only paddling section along Yadkin River. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camp stove. Briefly about the general area: Yadkin River generally gets a good deal of rainfall; June is the month that gets the most rain while December is the month with the least amount of precipitation.   High temperatures at Yadkin River during the long summer days are in the 60's; the nighttime is a little cooler of course, frequently in the 50's. Highs through the winter are regularly in the 30's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Yadkin River drop into the 10's.
