This section of Yadkin River in North Carolina is 19.9 miles long and has been rated as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Hickory-Morganton-Lenoir, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so don't forget that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. The wonderful North Carolina scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Yadkin River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. A
good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. Yadkin River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the Route 268 Bridge to Route 1137 stretch is the only one. The beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains is a great plus for this river. You
can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This stretch is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a large number of paddling spots.
Briefly about the general area: During the summer here at Yadkin River, high temperatures usually get into the 60's. Throughout the moonlight hours it's frequently
in the 50's. High temperatures throughout the winter are normally in the 30's while Yadkin River overnight low temperatures throughout the wintertime are in the 10's. Yadkin River is a pretty wet place regularly with lots of precipitation; the month with most of the rain is June, and the driest month is December. Happy Valley is a pleasant location to spend some time at.
