North Carolina Route 1001 to US Route 64 section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-II 29 miles
I am looking for the area of the Yadkin river in southeastern Wilkes County at the mouth of a creek that flows into the Yadkin, does anyone know this area and the name of the creek that flows into it? Thank you Says Karen Collins
The North Carolina Route 1001 to US Route 64 section of Yadkin River is 29 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. The put-in location is a short drive from Lexington-Thomasville, as you can see on the road map further down. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking here in
North Carolina are often easier than in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. This section is long enough for an overnight trip if you take your time, so why not pack your sleeping bag too. The natural beauty
of North Carolina and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The North Carolina Route 1001 to US Route 64 section is one of a few paddling sections in this river system. Getting a good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this
area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. There's camping available near Yadkin River.
Briefly about the general area: Through the warm days of summer at Yadkin River highs are regularly in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows plunge down to the 60's. High temperatures
during the wintertime are normally in the 40's with temperatures at Yadkin River dipping down into the 20's through winter nights. All the water falling down from the sky makes Yadkin River a wet site; of all the months in a year March is the one with the most rain; the driest of the months is November.
