The SR 1242 to US 129 stretch of Yellow Creek is 1.1 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V section of whitewater. The wonderful Graham County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Yellow Creek will make you feel great. The average North Carolina whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The SR 1242 to US 129 section is the only paddling section along Yellow Creek.
This section is very short so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great reasons to come. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. The river winds through the Great Smoky Mountains and
you get great scenery. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers.
