The beautiful scenery of Graham County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water attract people from near and far. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in North Carolina is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. The SR 1242 to US 129 stretch is the only paddling stretch along Yellow Creek. Whether you're whitewater     rafting or kayaking this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. The campgrounds here at Yellow Creek are pretty good. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. The beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains is a great plus for this river. This is a very short stretch so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. Briefly about the general area: Yellow Creek is a pretty wet place generally with much rain; during the month of March you get the most rain around here, and the driest month is October. Kirkland Gap is a fine place to pop by close by, and don't leave Yellow Creek without first going   for a hike along the Long Hungry Ridge Trail. But wait, there's more cool things to do in the Great Smoky Mountains. High temperatures at Yellow Creek during the summertime are in the 80's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 60's. During the wintertime the highs are typically in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 20's to Yellow Creek.
