The starting point is not too far from Cincinnati-Middletown, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The beautiful scenery of Clermont County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. The campgrounds here at Backbone Creek are pretty good. There are no other sections to paddle along Backbone Creek than the Elmwood Road to East Fork of Little Miami River section. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature will have you coming back for more. You might be into
whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling rivers. This stretch of Backbone Creek in Clermont County is 1.5 miles long and has been rated as a class III-V section by American Whitewater. Lodging is available near the river,
and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This section is quite short so better bring some good walking shoes. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so don't forget that rivers here are less demanding.
Briefly about the general area: Possum Hollow is a glorious location to stop at near Backbone Creek. At Backbone Creek through the warmest time of the year highs are in the 80's. When the night sets in temperatures plunge down into the 60's. Daytime highs during the wintertime are
in the 30's, and after the sun is down all through the wintertime temperatures at Backbone Creek drop into the 10's. Backbone Creek gets a good deal of water; during May this area sees the most rain, and the driest month of the year is February.
