The wonderful Ohio scenery and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. The Elmwood Road to East Fork of Little Miami River stretch of Backbone Creek is 1.5 miles long and is a class III-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, in this general area you'll find lots of paddling rivers. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'd better be prepared to walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. There are no other stretches to paddle
along Backbone Creek than the Elmwood Road to East Fork of Little Miami River stretch. There's camping available near Backbone Creek. If you've been out of state whitewater rafting and kayaking you might find the rivers here more forgiving, so keep in mind that rivers here are
not as hard as elsewhere. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Cincinnati-Middletown, as you can see on the road map further down. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here.
Briefly about the general area: Through the months of summer here at Backbone Creek, high temperatures usually reach the 80's while night lows are generally in the 60's. All through
the winter highs are in the 30's; overnight lows in the 10's for Backbone Creek. A trip to Possum Hollow is always fun. The high level of precipitation makes Backbone Creek a reasonably wet spot; May is when you get the most rain here, and February meanwhile is the driest month.
