  If you're coming from Ashtabula it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The Harpersfield Dam to Hidden Valley section of Grand River is 8 miles long and it is classified as a class I-II section by American Whitewater. The average Ohio whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that lots of rivers here are good for beginners. Some people prefer whitewater rafting
    and some kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. There are no other stretches to paddle along Grand River than the Harpersfield Dam to Hidden Valley stretch. The nature scenery of Ashtabula County and the cool fresh water will make you
feel great. No shortage of good hotels, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. This stretch is mid length, suitable for an afternoon trip. Getting your paddling muscles activated and spending some quality time in nature are great attractions for lots of people.

High temperatures at Grand River through the summertime are in the 80's, and the overnight is fairly chillier of course, commonly in the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's, and winter nights come with lows in
 
the 10's to Grand River. Grand River is a good place of common rain; through September this area sees the most rain; February is when it's the driest.
