Having paddled the 70 miles of the Great Miami, the WW is great for beginners or rec paddlers wanting to have a little excitement added to their trip. Water Quality is good, in fact it can be better then the Little Miami during low water. Best time to hit the GM is when it is running between 2500cfs and 3800cfs (Hamilton USGS gage if your looking for some WW. There isn't too many places in the summer in the Midwest you can find good water and waves, but the Great Miami still flows well in August. Says Misty Duff

The natural beauty of Hamilton County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Ohio are easier than the national norm, so don't forget that rivers
here are less demanding. This section of Great Miami River is 0 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I section of whitewater. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Getting your paddling muscles activated and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. This is a very short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. The put-in is not too far from Cincinnati-Middletown, if you're
not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. Great Miami River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches, the 50 Hole stretch is the only one. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with not too many other
places for that. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: A day at pretty Long Island Beach in the neighborhood of Great Miami River is a wonderful thing to do, and if the weather is tremendous, you can go for a hike along
the Little Turtle Trail. On a good day at Great Miami River you can take a hike along the Blue Jacket Trail. At Great Miami River through the warm months highs are in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows sink down to the 60's. The winter comes with highs in the 30's, and overnight lows
in the 10's for Great Miami River. Great Miami River gets a common amount of yearly rain; throughout May this area sees the most rain; the driest month is January.
