Having paddled the 70 miles of the Great Miami, the WW is great for beginners or rec paddlers wanting to have a little excitement added to their trip. Water Quality is good, in fact it can be better then the Little Miami during low water. Best time to hit the GM is when it is running between 2500cfs and 3800cfs (Hamilton USGS gage if your looking for some WW. There isn't too many places in the summer in the Midwest you can find good water and waves, but the Great Miami still flows well in August. Says Misty Duff

The 50 Hole stretch of Great Miami River in Hamilton County is 0 miles long and is a class I section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The average Ohio whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier
to master than those in other states, so keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. The natural beauty of Hamilton County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The put-in location is a reasonable drive from Cincinnati-Middletown, as you can see on the road map further down. Great Miami River doesn't have a lot of paddling stretches,
the 50 Hole stretch is the only one. There's camping available near Great Miami River. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you won't find a large number of other places. This section is very short so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river
in one stretch. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near.
Briefly about the general area: Beaches are splendid; and Long Island Beach in close proximity to Great Miami River is no exception; if the weather is nice,
you can go for a hike along the Blue Jacket Trail. While you're here at Great Miami River you can take a hike along the Little Turtle Trail. Summertime brings highs in the 80's to Great Miami River while overnight lows are frequently in the 60's. High temperatures during the winter
are normally in the 30's with temperatures at Great Miami River dipping down into the 10's during winter nights. The amount of rainfall that falls at Great Miami River is close to the national average; most of the rain falls during May, and January is when it's the driest.
