Ohio whitewater - Hocking River, Fairfield County Fairfield county, 1/4 mile above Rock Mill Road to Mt Zion Road section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS II-IV     0.75 miles   This section of Hocking River in Ohio is 0.75 miles long and has been rated as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. The nature scenery of Ohio and the water flowing gracefully down Hocking River are reasons enough to come here and paddle. Great exercise and just being out on the river for a while are sure to keep you coming back for more. The starting point is not too far from Columbus, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. This stretch is very short so better bring some good walking shoes. And     of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that the rivers in this state are less demanding. This is the only paddling stretch along Hocking River. Briefly about the general area: Summer at Hocking River arrives with high temperatures in the 80's while overnight lows are generally in the 60's. High temperatures through the winter are normally in the 30's, and through the dark hours in the winter at Hocking River temperatures descend to the 10's.
