Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Ohio is often easier than elsewhere, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. The Clifton Gorge stretch of Little Miami River in Greene County is 1.3 miles
long and has been rated as a class II-IV section by American Whitewater. This is a very short section so better bring some good walking shoes. The put-in location is a short drive from Springfield, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost.
You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are not so many other good spots for that around here. The Clifton Gorge section is the only paddling section along Little Miami River. Getting a good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car.
Briefly about the general area:
Little Miami River is right by the South Gorge Trail, and Steamboat Rock is an attention-grabbing place to visit while at Little Miami River. A splendid place to explore near Little Miami River is Clifton Gorge, and hiking along the Arboretum Trail is good fun. This is a great
river. Through the long summer days highs here at Little Miami River get into the 80's while overnight lows are regularly in the 60's. Highs through the winter are usually in the 30's with temperatures at Little Miami River dipping down into the 10's through winter nights.
Little Miami River is a good place of normal precipitation; most of the rain falls all through July while January is generally the driest month.
