The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. The Clifton Gorge section of Little
Miami River in Greene County is 1.3 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II-IV section. The wonderful Ohio scenery and the cool fresh water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Springfield,
as you can see on the road map further down. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. This is an extremely short stretch so better bring some good walking shoes. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. There are no other sections to paddle along Little Miami River than the Clifton Gorge section. A good workout and spending some quality time in nature will have you coming back for more.
Briefly about the general
area: The South Gorge Trail is a magnificent hiking trail close to Little Miami River, and Steamboat Rock is an interesting location to take a look at while at Little Miami River. For the duration of the long summer days, highs mostly are in the 80's at Little Miami River,
and during summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. The wintertime comes with highs in the 30's, and after the sun is down through the winter temperatures at Little Miami River fall into the 10's. This is a great river. Little Miami River gets a normal amount of precipitation;
July is when you get the most rain here while January is typically the driest month. Near Little Miami River you locate the Arboretum Trail which is a glorious hiking trail, and while you're here why not check out Clifton Gorge.
