The wonderful Montgomery County scenery and the cool fresh water make the trip here worthwhile. If you're coming from Dayton it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, as you can see on the road map further down. No need to look hard for hotels, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is an extremely short section so you'd better be prepared to     walk your kayak back to put-in a few times. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. This stretch of Mad River is 0 miles long and it is classified as a class II+ section by American Whitewater. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. Mad River doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the Huffman Dam section is the only one. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. Briefly about the general area: Mad River gets a typical amount of precipitation; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain while January is the month with the least amount of precipitation. At Mad River throughout the summer highs are in the 80's; the night is a bit chillier   of course, generally in the 60's. Through the wintertime the highs are ordinarily in the 30's, and nighttime lows during the wintertime for Mad River tend to be in the 10's.
