Boat launch to I-475 bridge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS I-II(III) 5.5 miles
IMHO: the canoeing &/or kayaking put-in/take-out locations should be moved. The class II's beginning just above the Jerome Rd/Fallen-Timbers Rapids, are a real treat to run! They terminate at the put-in dot on the map. The Class II Buttonwood Rapids, begin just below the I-475 bridge, and extend to a point just below the down-river side of Bluegrass Island. There are plenty of hydraulics just below & above both areas, to take a breather in. Mid-March thru May 1st, choose the timeing of your visit very carefully! The river is loaded with wading Walleye
fishermen, during that period. To avoid them, and make your experience more interesting & exciting, run the river when the water level reads 584-585 at the I-475/23 bridge. That's when the two Class II rapid-sets extend into mid-range+ difficulty. Says Dennis
The Boat
launch to I-475 bridge section of Maumee River in Ohio is 5.5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I-II(III) section. The put-in location is a short drive from Toledo, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Boat launch to I-475 bridge section is one of them. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Great exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. This section is long enough
to enjoy a good non stop paddle, suitable for an afternoon trip. The natural beauty of Ohio and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle. There are plenty of hotels here if you want to spend a night, but you'd better reserve in advance
because these hotels fill up quick. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so keep in mind that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy.
