The Woodville to Elmore stretch of Portage River in Ohio is 4 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I-II section. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that many runs in this state are very easy. Getting some good exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The put-in is not too far from Fremont, if you're not     familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. There are no other stretches to paddle along Portage River than the Woodville to Elmore stretch. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This stretch has has enough mileage, you can easily run it on an afternoon. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area has a pretty small number of paddling places. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Briefly about the general area: Portage River gets a normal amount of yearly precipitation; of all the months in a year June is the one with the most rain, and the driest month of the year is January. At Portage River through the days of summer highs are   in the 80's while night lows are frequently in the 60's.
