O'Shaughnessy Dam section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.
CLASS IV 1 miles
We tried this stretch of river yesterday. It was a complete waste of time. The water was flat and still. There wasn't enough current to even move us. We had to paddle the 1m back to the take-out location. What a bust! =( Says Gary S. Hugo
How deep is the river? Says Cuyahogagirl
The map above I believe is incorrect. It clearly shows the put in ABOVE the O'Shaughnessy dam. Are we supposed to shoot over the spill way to a 84 foot high concrete dam? Also, the take out location appears to be the back yard of a secured private residence. Well, according to
the map anyway. I wish there was more information about this location. Says Thomas Lowther
If you're coming from Columbus it's not a long drive at all to the put-in location, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The scenic beauty
of Ohio and the playfulness of the water attract people from near and far. This is an extremely short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. Getting a good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this is an area with not too many other rivers for that. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Ohio is often easier than elsewhere, so keep in mind that a lot of the rivers here are suitable for beginners. If you'll
be staying in a hotel you're in luck, lodging is available very near the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. The O'Shaughnessy Dam section of Scioto River is 1 miles long and is a class IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The O'Shaughnessy
Dam stretch is the only paddling stretch along Scioto River.
