Ohio whitewater - Vermilion River, Huron County Huron county, Upper section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I(II)     9 miles   The Upper stretch of Vermilion River in Huron County is 9 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class I(II) section of whitewater. The scenic beauty of Huron County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water make the trip here worthwhile. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with not too many other spots for that. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Getting some good exercise     and a chance to spend some time outdoors are sure to keep you coming back for more. There are a few other sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. The put-in is not too far from Sandusky, as you can see on the road map further down. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in Ohio is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that rivers here are not as hard as elsewhere. On this section you do get some distance, good for a one day paddling trip. Briefly about the general area: High temperatures at Vermilion River during the days of summer are in the 80's, and through summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. All through the winter highs are in the 30's, and nighttime lows through the winter for Vermilion River tend to be in the 10's.
