If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Ohio you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so better not forget that the rivers in this state are less demanding. The Middle stretch of Vermilion River is 8 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class I(II) section. The starting location is a short drive from Sandusky, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. This stretch is mid length,     you can easily run it on an afternoon. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. Great exercise and spending some quality time in nature have a lot of people coming here. There are many good hotels to choose from, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way in this general area you won't find many other paddling spots. Briefly about the general area: The annual rain here at Vermilion River is about average; June is when you get the most rain here, and February on the other hand is the driest. At Vermilion River through the summer months highs are in the 80's. Summer nighttime lows fall down to the 60's. The cold days of the   winter come with highs in the 30's; winter nights come with lows in the 10's to Vermilion River.
