Ohio whitewater - Vermilion River, Erie County Erie county, Middle section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.   CLASS I(II)     8 miles   This stretch of Vermilion River in Ohio is 8 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class I(II) section. The nature scenery of Erie County and the cool fresh water attract people from near and far. The put-in is not too far from Sandusky, there's a road map further down the page with more info on that. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature are great attractions for lots of people. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. On this section you do get some distance,     suitable for an afternoon trip. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that rivers here are less demanding. Since you're on this site you are probably into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this area has a pretty small number of paddling rivers. There are nice comfortable hotels here, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. This is one of a small number of paddling sections in this river system, there are a few others too. Briefly about the general area: The annual rainfall here at Vermilion River is about average; the wettest month of the year is usually June, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest of the months is February. Main Street Beach is   near Vermilion River and is a stunning beach to pop by. Summer brings highs in the 80's to Vermilion River. Summer overnight lows dip down to the 60's. All through the winter highs are in the 30's, and overnight lows at Vermilion River during the wintertime usually descend into the 10's.
