This stretch of Big Creek is 6 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class II-III section of whitewater. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often easier than in other states, so if you're visiting here do keep in mind that many of the rivers here are not very demanding. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. Whitewater paddling here in the Ouachita Mountains is a great experience. This
is the only paddling section along Big Creek. This is a pretty decent length section, it's good length for a morning trip. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling places. The natural beauty of Oklahoma and the water flowing
gracefully down Big Creek beats anything. Great exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are sure to keep you coming back for more. The campgrounds here at Big Creek are pretty good.
Briefly about the general area: Through the warmest time of the year here at Big Creek, high temperatures regularly get into the 90's; during summer nights temperatures are in the 60's. For the duration of the wintertime the highs are typically in the 50's, and overnight lows at Big Creek through the wintertime commonly drop into the 20's. Big Creek gets a great deal of water; the month of May is the wettest with most of the rain, and the driest month is January.
