This section of Buffalo Creek in Oklahoma is 11 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. This stretch has enough mileage for an overnight trip, so go ahead and pack your sleeping bag. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking there are lots of good places for that around here. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The beauty of the Ouachita Mountains is a great plus for this
river. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Oklahoma are easier than the national norm, so better not forget that rivers here are less demanding. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby. This is the only paddling stretch along Buffalo Creek. Great
exercise and just hanging out with mother nature are great reasons to come. The wonderful McCurtain County scenery and the water flowing gracefully down Buffalo Creek are reasons enough to come here and paddle.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Buffalo Creek ordinarily tend to be in the 90's. Once the sun is down it descends down to the 60's. The cold days of the wintertime come with highs in the 50's with temperatures at Buffalo Creek dipping down into the 30's during winter nights. Buffalo Creek sees pretty high levels of rainfall; May is the month that gets the most rain; January is the month with the least moisture.
