This stretch of Illinois River in Cherokee County is 0 miles long and has been determined by American Whitewater to be a class II section. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more forgiving, so don't forget that many runs in this state are very easy. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Tahlequah, please print out a copy of the road map further down the page so you won’t get lost. The Ozarks scenery is wonderful. No need to look hard for hotels, and if you make reservations
in advance you're all set. There are some good sections to paddle in this river system, the Playspot at Echota section is one of them. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. The nature scenery of Oklahoma and the cool fresh water
attract people from near and far. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you won't find a large number of other places. This is a very short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground.
Briefly about the general area: Illinois River is a reasonably wet place mostly with a lot of rainfall; through June this area sees the most rain; January on the other hand is the driest. So many entertaining things to do in the Ozarks,
not enough time. Near Illinois River you stumble on River Bend Hollow which is a delightful location to explore, and don't leave Illinois River without first checking out Point of the Pines. At Illinois River throughout the summer months highs are in the 90's with overnight
lows in the 70's. For the duration of the winter this place gets highs in the 40's; night lows through the winter for Illinois River tend to be in the 20's.
