If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Oklahoma you might find the rivers here a bit more manageable, so you'd better keep in mind that quite a few of the sections here are pretty easy. This section of Kiamichi River in Le Flore County is 7 miles long and it is classified as a class II-III section by American Whitewater. The beautiful Ouachita Mountains scenery is an added bonus. Getting your paddling muscles activated and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. Since you're on this site you are probably
into whitewater rafting or kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of rivers for that. This is a pretty decent length section, it's perfect for a one day trip. You can pitch a tent or park your RV at a nearby campground. This is the only paddling section along Kiamichi
River. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The nature scenery of Oklahoma and the playfulness of the water are in themselves reasons enough to come here to paddle.
Briefly about the general area: Summertime highs at Kiamichi River generally tend to be in the 90's. All through the moonlight hours it's commonly in the 60's. For the duration of the wintertime highs are generally in the 50's with temperatures at Kiamichi River dipping down into the
20's through winter nights. Kiamichi River is a wet spot that gets lots of rainfall; during May this area sees the most rain, and January meanwhile is the driest month.
