The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit easier to master in this state than those in other states, so if you're not from around here don't forget that a large number of rivers in this state are quite easy. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to stay the night, but you'd better reserve in advance because these hotels fill up quick. The Broken
Bow dam to Highway 70 stretch is one of a few paddling stretches in this river system. The nature scenery of McCurtain County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water will make you feel great. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great
reasons to come. Whitewater paddling here in the Ouachita Mountains is a great experience. This is a bit of a short stretch so you'll have to walk back to the start over and over. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. If you're a camper you can camp at one of the great campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: That right there is lots of enjoyable stuff already but it goes on, the Ouachita Mountains has it all. Mountain Fork is a pretty wet place ordinarily with
a good deal of rain; May is the month that gets the most rain; the driest month of the year is January. The beauty of mother nature reveals herself at Presbyterian Falls, and since you're here you can take a hike along the Beaver Lodge Nature Trail. At Mountain Fork through
the warm months highs are in the 90's, and the night is quite cooler of course, frequently in the 60's. The winter brings highs down to the 50's; winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Mountain Fork.
