Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often easier than elsewhere, so you'd better keep in mind that many of the sections here are safe for beginners. There aren’t any hotels right nearby but if you're willing to drive a short distance then no problem and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. This stretch is mid length, it's perfect for a one     day trip. The put-in is not too far from Ardmore, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while have people coming from far and near. This stretch of Washita River is 9 miles long and is a class II-III section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The beauty of the Arbuckle Mountains is a great plus for this river. The Dougherty to Gene Autry section is the only paddling section along Washita River. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you won't find a large number of other spots. Briefly about the general area: Don't leave Washita River without first paying a visit to Cedar Falls. Throughout the long summer days here at Washita River, high temperatures regularly   reach the 90's. When the night sets in temperatures descend down into the 70's. The winter brings highs down to the 50's; after the sun is down during the wintertime temperatures at Washita River drop into the 20's. A normal amount of precipitation falls here at Washita River; the month with most of the rain is May, and January meanwhile is the driest month.
