The Butte Falls to Netherlands Road stretch of Big Butte Creek is 9.5 miles long and is a class III-IV section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. The scenic beauty of Oregon and the water flowing gracefully down Big Butte Creek make the trip here worthwhile. The starting point is not too far from Medford, if you're not familiar with the area there's a road map further down the page. The average whitewater rafting or kayaking river tends to be a bit harder to master in this state than those in other states, so keep in mind that many of the rivers
here are not very forgiving. Getting some good exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors will have you coming back for more. There are no other sections to paddle along Big Butte Creek than the Butte Falls to Netherlands Road section. You might be into whitewater rafting
or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, this area has a large number of paddling spots. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The Southern Cascade Range scenery is wonderful. This stretch has has enough mileage, it's perfect for a one day trip.
Briefly about the general area: Through the warm months at Big Butte Creek highs are usually in the 90's. Once the sun is down it drops down to the
50's. The winter comes with highs in the 40's while Big Butte Creek night low temperatures through the wintertime are in the 30's. Big Butte Creek is a location that is reasonably waterless typically; of all the months in a year December is the one with the most rain, and July is the month with the least moisture.
