CLASS IV-V 4.5 miles
The Parker Falls to Champion Creek stretch of Brice Creek is 4.5 miles long and it is classified as a class IV-V section by American Whitewater. The beautiful scenery of Oregon and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. Whitewater paddling here in the Central Cascade Range is a great experience. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so if you're not from around here don't forget that rivers here are less forgiving. No matter if you're whitewater rafting or kayaking this area
has a large number of paddling spots. There are some good stretches to paddle in this river system, the Parker Falls to Champion Creek stretch is one of them. This stretch is mid length, good for a one day paddling trip. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to
get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. There are campgrounds quite near the river where you can camp. A bit of exercise and a chance to spend some time outdoors have people coming from far and near.
Briefly about the general area: Brice Creek frequently gets a great deal of rainfall; of all the months in a year November is the one with the most rain while July is ordinarily the driest month. There is a splendid hiking trail close to Brice Creek called the Steamboat Trail, and a short trip to Hotel Spring is always worthwhile.
This is a great river. Throughout the warm days of summer, highs typically are in the 70's at Brice Creek; the night is fairly colder of course, mostly in the 40's. The winter brings highs down to the 40's, and night lows at Brice Creek during the winter frequently dip into the
30's. That right there is a lot of cool stuff already but it goes on, the Central Cascade Range has it all. On a magnificent day at Brice Creek you can take a hike along the Mayflower Trail, and a spree to Brice Creek wouldn't be complete without taking a look at Smith Falls.
