Be mindful that the old pilings from the dam that was removed still exist and I believe present a hazard that must be scouted. If you run it before June there is likely no problem at all. Enjoy. This section of Calapooia River in Oregon is 10 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II section. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside Oregon
you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so you'd better keep in mind that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. If you have the time you can make this a two day trip, so pack your camp stove. The starting location is a reasonable drive from Albany-Lebanon, there's
a road map further down the page with more info on that. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking around here you'll find a large number of good rivers. A good workout and just being out on the river for a while are great reasons to come. This is not the only paddling stretch in this river system, there are others too. There's camping available near Calapooia River. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, but do book a room before you come because it is a very popular destination. The river winds through the Central Cascade Range and you get
great scenery. The beautiful scenery of Oregon and the playfulness of the water are reasons enough to come here and paddle.
Briefly about the general area: During the summer highs here at Calapooia River get into the 80's, and during the night it cools down to the 50's.
Through the winter this place gets highs in the 40's, and winter nights come with lows in the 30's to Calapooia River. Calapooia River gets a typical amount of annual rainfall; December is when you get the most rain here while July is generally the driest month.
