The 1.2 mi above Quartzville Creek stretch of Canal Creek in Oregon is 1.2 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class IV-V section of whitewater. The wonderful Oregon scenery and the cool fresh water are reasons enough to come here and paddle. A good workout and a chance to spend some time outdoors are great attractions for lots of people. The beautiful Central Cascade Range scenery is an added bonus. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. This is a
very short section so it's not like you're gonna spend hours on the river in one stretch. This is the only paddling section along Canal Creek. If you've been whitewater rafting and kayaking outside this state you might find the rivers here a bit more challenging, so don't forget
that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. You might be into whitewater rafting or kayaking or both, doesn't matter, around here you'll find a large number of good places. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby.
Briefly about the general area: For the period of the summertime months, highs regularly are in the 70's at Canal Creek; the overnight is slightly colder of course, mostly in the 40's. Throughout the wintertime highs are typically in the 40's with temperatures at Canal Creek dipping down into the 30's during
winter nights. Yep, outdoors entertaining things truly is abundant here in the Central Cascade Range. Don't leave Canal Creek without first going for a hike along the Chimney Peak Trail. Lots of rainfall falls at Canal Creek; December is the month that gets the most rain while July is commonly the driest month. Go for a hike on the Minniece Point Trail, and a great place to stop at is Dry Gulch.
