This section of Canal Creek is 1.2 miles long and is a class IV-V section of whitewater according to American Whitewater. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way this is an area with plenty of places for that. The beautiful scenery of Oregon and the water flowing gracefully down Canal Creek are reasons enough to come here and paddle. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in Oregon tend to be more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that a large number
of rivers in this state are not easy. Canal Creek doesn't have a lot of paddling sections, the 1.2 mi above Quartzville Creek section is the only one. Whitewater paddling here in the Central Cascade Range is a great experience. This is an extremely short section so you'll have
to walk back to the start over and over. Getting some good exercise and just being out on the river for a while are great attractions for lots of people. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set.
Briefly about the general area: Near Canal Creek you hit upon Dry Gulch which is a great site to visit, and you can go for a hike on the Chimney Peak Trail. You'll truly wish for more hours in a day to enjoy all the exciting things in the Central Cascade Range. There are tremendous places
to discover along the Minniece Point Trail. Canal Creek sees pretty high levels of precipitation; most of the rain falls during December while July is typically the driest month. At Canal Creek through the summer highs are in the 70's with overnight lows in the 40's. Through the winter this place gets highs in the 40's, and nighttime lows at Canal Creek through the winter typically sink into the 30's.
