Oregon whitewater, Chetco River

Curry county, Gorge section whitewater kayaking, rafting, and paddling information.

CLASS III-IV(V)     8.7 miles
Whitewater rafting and kayaking spots in this state tend to be more challenging than the national average, so don't forget that lots of rivers here are not for beginners. The Gorge stretch of Chetco River in Curry County is 8.7 miles long and is according to American Whitewater a class III-IV(V) section of whitewater. The Gorge section is the only paddling section along Chetco River. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one
day paddling trip. The nature scenery of Curry County and the water flowing gracefully down Chetco River attract people from near and far. There's camping available near Chetco River. A good workout and just being out on
the river for a while have people coming from far and near. Not too many hotels nearby, you'll have to drive a bit to get to one, but if you donít have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. When you're paddling down a Central Cascade Range river like this one you always get great scenery along the way too.
