The nature scenery of Clackamas County and the sparkling of the sunlight on the water have people coming here. This stretch of Clackamas River is 8 miles long and it is classified as a class III-IV section by American Whitewater. For all you camping people there are campgrounds nearby. Getting some good exercise and spending some quality time in nature have people coming from far and near. There are plenty of other stretches in this river system that can be paddled as well. You might have to settle for a hotel a bit away from the river if you want to
stay the night, but if you don’t have reservations you might end up sleeping in your car. On this section you do get some distance, it's good length for a morning trip. The rivers for whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state are often tougher than in other states, so better
not forget that many runs in this state are not easy. The river winds through the Central Cascade Range and you get great scenery. Whether you're whitewater rafting or kayaking in this general area you'll find lots of paddling spots.
Briefly about the general area: There's no way someone can get bored here in the Central Cascade Range. There is a wonderful hiking trail next to Clackamas River called the Cottonwood Meadows Trail. The Rhododendron Ridge Trail is a great hiking trail in close proximity to Clackamas River, and Austin Hot Springs is a
beautiful place to explore while you're at Clackamas River. All the water falling down from the sky makes Clackamas River a wet spot; the wettest month of the year is mostly December, that's the one that rains the most, and the driest of the months is July. During the long
summer days highs here at Clackamas River reach the 70's. For the duration of the moonlight hours it's ordinarily in the 50's. The cold days of the winter come with highs in the 40's, and night lows during the wintertime for Clackamas River tend to be in the 30's.
