The Elk Lake Creek to river mile 5.5 stretch of Collawash River is 5 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class III-IV(V) section. And of course, there are campgrounds nearby. The nearby hotels are a bit away from the river, and if you make reservations in advance you're all set. Whitewater rafting and kayaking in this state is often more difficult than elsewhere, so don't forget that quite a few of the sections here are not easy. There are a few other     sections in this river system that can be paddled as well. Some people prefer whitewater rafting and some kayaking, either way there are lots of good rivers for that around here. A good workout and just hanging out with mother nature have a lot of people coming here. The river winds through the Central Cascade Range and you get great scenery. This stretch is mid length, it's good length for a morning trip. Briefly about the general area: Having a glorious time in the Central Cascade Range is trouble-free. Collawash River sees pretty high levels of precipitation; all through December this area sees the most rain; the driest month of the year is July. There is a nice hiking trail in the vicinity of Collawash River called the Bull of the Woods Trail, and close by you come across the Janus Butte Trail which is a glorious   hiking trail. Summertime brings highs in the 70's to Collawash River. Through the moonlight hours it's commonly in the 50's. For the duration of the winter highs are in the 40's, and night lows during the wintertime for Collawash River tend to be in the 30's.
